"It's always difficult to join the team in the middle of the season but at least, I shouldn't have any language barrier," Wortman said. "Our goal this season is to fight for the championship or at least for places in the UEFA Cup."

Dynamo have struggled since the start of the season despite their flamboyant owner Alexei Fedorychev spending almost $100 million on players since taking control of the club last year.

They are now in seventh place with 22 points from 16 matches and 16 points behind runaway leaders Lokomotiv Moscow following a 2-1 home defeat by Zenit St Petersburg on Sunday.

Hiddink expected to be named Australia coach on Friday

SYDNEY, July 22 (Reuters) - Football Federation Australia (FFA) are expected to confirm PSV Eindhoven coach Guus Hiddink as their new national coach later on Friday.

FFA are holding a news conference at 0500 GMT (1500 local) on Friday to unveil the new coach. Media reports on Thursday in South Korea, where the Dutchman was with PSV for the Peace Cup pre-season tournament, said he was on his way to Sydney.

Hiddink, who guided co-hosts South Korea to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup, told reporters in South Korea on Wednesday that he would take over as Australia coach, if the Socceroos qualify for the 2006 World Cup finals.

"If Australia qualify for the 2006 World Cup, then I will take over (by) November," Hiddink said after PSV's 1-1 draw with Olympique Lyon at the tournament. "We just have to agree on some details before finalising (the deal)."

Hiddink said he would stay on at PSV as coach or in an advisory capacity until November.

Australia's next matches are the 2006 World Cup qualifiers against the Solomon Islands in September.

The Oceania group winners will play the fifth-placed South American team over two legs in November to qualify for the 2006 tournament in Germany.

FFA chief executive John O'Neill has previously said he is "99 percent sure" Hiddink would take over from Frank Farina, who stepped down last month after six years in charge.

Hiddink steered PSV Eindhoven to the Dutch league title and the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

Finland name Heliskoski as caretaker coach

HELSINKI, July 25 (Reuters) - Jyrki Heliskoski has been appointed caretaker coach of Finland for the rest of their 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 59-year-old Heliskoski replaces Antti Muurinen on a temporary basis, the Football Association of Finland said on its website on Monday.

Heliskoski has previously coached HJK Helsinki and several Finnish youth teams.

President Pekka Hamalainen said the appointment would give the Football Association of Finland time to search for a coach for the 2006-07 European Championship qualifying campaign.

Muurinen, 51, who had been in charge since 2000, was sacked after his team's hopes of reaching the World Cup finals were virtually ended by a 4-0 home defeat by the Netherlands last month.

Finland play their next qualifier against Macedonia on August 17. They are fourth in Group One, 13 points behind the Dutch and 12 adrift of the Czech Republic.

Uzbekistan name Englishman Houghton as coach

TASHKENT, July 25 (Reuters) - Englishman Bobby Houghton has been named as coach of Uzbekistan's national team, signing a contract on Monday until the end of the year.

Houghton replaces Ravshan Khaidarov, who took over on a caretaker basis last month after German Heinz-Jurgen Geode was sacked following a string of poor results.

Uzbek officials said Houghton's contract could be extended through next year depending on the team's performances.

The 58-year-old Englishman has extensive coaching experience at club and international level in many parts of the world.

He has coached in the United States, China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and guided Swedish club Malmo to the European Cup final in 1979.

Houghton leads the central Asian country for the first time in a World Cup qualifier against Kuwait on August 17.

Uzbekistan must beat Kuwait to set-up a two-legged Asian playoff against Bahrain, with the winners going on to face the fourth-placed team from the CONCACAF region for a spot in next year's finals in Germany.

The appointment was announced by the Benin Football Federation ahead of the west African country's next World Cup qualifier at home to Sudan on August 17.

Codjo, who has won just two of 19 games in charge of the national side in two previous stints at the helm, replaces Serge Deveze after the Frenchman's contract expired earlier this month.

Benin have also used Ghana's Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, Wabi Gomez and Frenchman Herve Revelli as coaches in the current World Cup qualifying campaign.
